Being a Host in Our Own Country
PT Dahana (Persero) is a State-owned Enterprise originating from a government-owned project (Indonesian Airforce) at Tasikmalaya airbase in 1966.
Dahana engages in explosives industry (energetic material) and services relating to explosives application, either for mining and construction or military.
In the fluctuating economic condition, Dahana, in 2008 was able to reach 30.35% increase of its revenue compared with the previous year. This business revenue was attained from each line of business at the division, namely Oil & Gas, Quarry & Construction as well as General Mining. ”Alhamdullilah, in 2008, business profit of the company reached a 176.80% increase compared to the previous year,” said Tanto Dirgantoro, President Director of PT Dahana (Persero).
This positive trend resulted in an appreciation for Dahana as the best State-owned Enterprise in 2008 in the sector of Steel, Heavy Equipment and Weaponry Industry by Investor Magazine.
This is not a sudden and effortless attainment, but it is a long-term road of revival of the company that is marked by obtaining an award from the Ministry of Industry in the sector of National Excellent Technological Creation. It also obtained an award of Rintisan Teknologi Industri from the Government of Republic of Indonesia in 2006.
After leaving monopoly and vertigo era in the late 1990’s, since 2002 Dahana has repositioned the business by focusing on three sectors of businesses. i.e. General Mining, Quarry and Construction as well as Oil and Gas in three line of businesses, namely : Explosive Manufacturing, Drilling and Blasting, complete detonation service, starting from preparatory stage up to post-detonation, either for Bench-Blasting, Trench-Blasting, Tunnel-Blasting, Cautious-Blasting or Under Water-Blasting. Other Related Services, offer some services related to explosive and explosion such as: Supply and Provision of Explosives and its Apparatus; Handling and Transportation of Explosives; Explosives Warehousing; Explosive and Explosion License; Explosives Import and Export; Explosive Testing and Destruction; Explosive Research and Development; Explosive Consultation; Design and Engineering for ANFO/Emulsion Truck and Emulsion as well as DANFO Explosives Factory.
Moreover, internal breakthrough and management such as reorganization and perfection of Human Resources re-composition system as well as financial restructuring may successfully maintain and improve the performance and operation of some strategic projects in the sector of raw material and explosive product that may reinforce the position of Dahana as a producer in the business of explosive industry Indonesia. Those projects are as a result of cooperation with domestic and foreign partners.
Electric Detonator factory in cooperation with PT Pindad with the capacity of 1,500,000 pcs / year, located in Turen, Malang was established in order to reduce the dependence on foreign partners. Products manufactured by this factory are : plain detonator, instaneous detonator, and delayed detonator. At present, seismic detonator is being developed, other than “squib” development innovation for Lapan rocket, grenade detonator for Pindad.
Bounded Warehouse. For a period of forty years, Dahana has shown its existence in domestic explosion industry. By utilizing the existing facilities and business opportunities, Dahana has obtained a license as a Bounded Warehouse Organizer (BWO) and also as an Entrepreneur At Bounded Warehouse (EABW) located at Jl. Subang Cikamurang, Desa Sadawarna, Kecamatan Cibogo, Kabupaten Subang, Jawa Barat, in the area of 3,600 m2, comprising 3 pieces of bonded warehouse to be utilized for AN, detonator, and accessories explosives respectively.
NONEL Factory. Non-Electric Detonator is one of accessories that presently gained much attention interest from large mining companies such as coal, gold et cetera because its ability to reduce the impact of explosion in the form of tremor in its surrounding environment. Moreover, the performance of explosion using non-electric detonator is considered to be better compared to electric detonator. After undergoing a process for almost one year, Dahana in cooperation with AEL (African Explosive Limited) successfully establish the first NONEL factory in Indonesia in 2008 with a production capacity of 3 million units per year. The establishment of this factory is expected be able to meet the demand of domestic market.
Implementation of SAP. As a response to competitive challenge and in order to adjust to the latest technological development, Dahana has adopted SAP as the tools or means in supporting its operational activity. The implementation of SAP may facilitate the decision makers owing to its ability to display data in real time and up to date information. It will certainly be helpful, especially in making strategic decisions.
Ammonium Nitrate Factory. As a manifestation of autonomy of Indonesia, Dahana (Persero) is currently developing an Ammonium Nitrate Factory, in cooperation with PT Suma Energi Nusantara. Development of the largest Ammonium Nitrate Factory in Southeast Asia is located at Kawasan Kaltim Industri Estate (KIE), Bontang, East Kalimantan. With an investment in the value of approximately US$ 400 million, the development of this factory also involves Yara AB, the holder of Kaltenbach-Thuring technological license (Ammonium Nitrate production technology) originating from Norway.
This AN factory is planned to have a production capacity of 300,000 ton per year. Dahana has completed an AMDAL (Environmental Impact Analysis) study under the assistance of consultant from the PSLH UGM. On August 8th, 2008, this project has officially entered the stage of field analysis.
Dahana has completely carried out land clearing and topographical survey that was followed by land preparation, site office development and soil investigation. This Ammonium Nitrate factory is expected to be able to reduce dependence on foreign partners and also a proof of national autonomy and evidence that the national industry may become a host in our own country.
